Research Based Argument

Do you feel that chocolate milk should really not leave our cafeteria? I believe that chocolate milk should seriously stay at all schools in the world for sure. For a very long time people have been arguing whether or not chocolate milk should be sold in schools. Some people do think it’s not good for you. But, I disagree, research shows it is fine for sure. We all surely do love chocolate milk! I have way too many reasons but I will only share my three main ones and very important ones that everyone should know. My first reason is that chocolate milk is delicious, my second reason is that it’s the kid’s choice to buy chocolate milk or not to at all, my very last reason is that chocolate milk has the six to eight essential nutrients. Chocolate milk doesn’t affect your health or life, it actually helps you. What is so bad about it?

One of the main reasons I think chocolate milk should not be banned is it’s very yummy. I personally drink milk more often when it’s chocolate because it’s delicious. As I say this, I’m realizing that since chocolate milk is so yummy kids will drink more milk. That’s very important because the more milk you drink it’s better for your health. Chocolate milk helps us. Marie Tarnworth, a nutritionist for the Dairy Association claims,“Best of all, because they love the taste, some kids drink more milk when it’s flavored”. This is important because it shows that some kids do drink more milk when it’s flavored. Which is important as well because it’s better for kids if they do drink even more. This shows undoubtedly that some kids will drink more milk if it’s chocolate milk. In other words, chocolate milk helps us since it’s so delicious to get more of those nutrients. Ms. Dobbins, another nutritionist said some kids like chocolate milk better than white milk. I infer kids like it better because of the taste. Chocolate milk is super delicious which makes it even better. Also, it’ll be more healthy if kids at least drink some milk. This is giving me the idea that chocolate milk is because it’s delicious and it makes people drink it more. In addition, milk actually has less sugar than coca cola! Chocolate milk is delicious for adults and children all ages. Marie Tarnworth, a nutritionist for the Dairy Association claims,“Best of all, because they love the taste, some kids drink more milk when it’s flavored”. I think Marie Tarnworth is really trying to explain that since kids love the taste, it leads up to a good thing. Some kids will drink more milk which is awesome and better, since it’s flavored. That helps kids a lot more. Chocolate milk is so delicious which makes it even better.

I really think that we shouldn’t ban chocolate milk from our cafeteria. It is the kids’ responsibility to drink milk or not drink it at all. I see that it’s the responsibility of having your own card that makes it possible for us to buy chocolate milk if we want to. For example, it’s any kid’s choice to walk into the cafeteria and buy chocolate milk or buy water. Specifically, it’s not like you have to buy chocolate milk since it’s in our cafeteria. The teachers in specifically Singapore American School have given the kids a card and gave them a responsibility to choose to buy chocolate milk or not. There are lots and lots of other schools as well. This is important because it shows that the teachers have made the choice to let us by our own food. This is giving me the idea that it’s a choice to buy chocolate milk. Just because chocolate milk is in the cafeteria you don’t have to buy it. Even Ms. Dobbins, a nutritionist said if given a choice most kids will often choose chocolate milk over white milk. I see that the responsibility of having a choice to get chocolate milk changes a lot. Also, Most kids in schools don’t drink chocolate milk everyday anyway. They just drink it sometimes as a treat. I don’t think we need to take it out. In addition, I think it’s the kid’s fault if they choose to drink it everyday. It’s a kid’s choice to drink chocolate milk or not. Betsy Hammond claims,“Chocolate milk far outsells white milk in school cafeterias”. In other words, I think the author is trying to say that kids buy chocolate milk way more than white milk. It shows that chocolate milk really is enjoyed or bought more than white milk if kids are given a choice. Since they say this it would mean that kids like chocolate milk much better than white milk in comparison a lot.  I’ve heard many people say that we really shouldn’t have chocolate milk in our cafeteria because kids get addicted to it and since they are given a choice they can’t stop drinking it. But, I disagree because kids care about themselves and would not do that. Kids do understand. Kids are given a choice to drink chocolate milk, you don’t have to buy it.

My last main explanation I think that chocolate milk should stay in our cafeteria is that it has the six to eight essential nutrients. In other words, chocolate milk is pretty healthy and not that bad for you. For example, Trumoo, a company that sells chocolate milk explains,“TruMoo, like regular milk, provides 8 essential nutrients: calcium, protein, vitamins A, D and B12, riboflavin, phosphorus and potassium”. This is important because if you don’t have these important nutrients you’ll be weak which is not good. To add on, this shows that chocolate milk is pretty healthy and actually good for us. Also Ms. Dobbins, a nutritionist says that chocolate milk and white milk have the same amount of nutrients. This is important because it shows that white milk and chocolate milk are both very healthy. So, why not drink the one that’s more delicious. In addition, Neil Leinwand says if chocolate milk and white milk have the same amount of a coca cola can has 39 grams of sugar. Magnolia chocolate milk has 20.8 grams of sugar. It has 18.2 grams less of sugar! Wow, this really shows how much better for everyone’s health it would be to drink chocolate milk then to drink coca cola. 18.2 grams of sugar is so much! For coca cola to have almost twice that amount is crazy. 39 grams  of sugar is too much. Also, some key words are ‘a coca cola can’ because this tells you that just one, single can has 39 grams of sugar, not a bottle or a big one. Chocolate milk is very healthy with a lot of nutrients. Nutrients are very important for human health and luckily that is what chocolate milk has. A lot of people say chocolate milk is bad for your health because is has too much sugar. However, I disagree because kids in school run around and burn it off. In fact, we have recess right after lunch in the cafeteria. Chocolate milk is very healthy with so many nutrients.

What I am saying is that since chocolate milk has the same amount of essential nutrients as white milk, it’s yummy, and it is the kid’s choice to buy it. Why ban it from our cafeteria? We all love it. I remember one time when drinking a can of coca cola, my dad rested his hand on my shoulder and pointed to chocolate milk. I knew what he meant. Everyone has different opinions but chocolate milk is the best choice to drink with no doubt. I have found some reasons why maybe chocolate milk should not be sold in schools but I still disagree with all of them. Therefore, I grabbed chocolate milk and put the coca cola can back into the fridge. I hope that now you do realize that chocolate milk isn’t really that bad after all! I feel that chocolate milk helps our self. I mean, it helps our life. We all deserve to have what chocolate milk gives us. Do you think chocolate milk is even better than most other drinks?
