Elodea Lab

  1. What happens to the cells as the salt water flows under the cover slip?
The cells are plasmolyzed when salt water gets on.

  1. Why does this happen?
Plasmolysis is the shrinking of the cytoplasm of a plant cell which happened in this video when the high salt concentration solution was placed next to the cover slide of the elodea.

3. Why didn’t the outer boundary of the cell collapse?
During plasmolysis, the cell membrane pulls away from the cell wall. It didn'happen because there was low salt concentration because of the rigid cell wall.

  1. Why do plants wilt when there is not enough water?
The plants chloroplast needs water in order for it to survive.
